Welcome!

“Scotland has a wealth of parasitology expertise. It is my hope that through SPPIRIT, we can leverage our strengths across institutes in support of ECRs to bring new ideas and big scientific questions to the table. Also I hope that we build a more connected and inclusive community of mentors and trainees, to support the next generation of parasitologists”

Dr Mattie Pawlowic

“Parasitology is an extremely challenging field of research, due to the complexity of multiple hosts, and niches and environments, and due to the divergent biology of the organisms we study. Overcoming these challenges requires coordination and integration of a variety of skills, specialities and resources”

Professor Lilach Sheiner

“I believe the future of parasitology is interdisciplinary and this is best achieved by supporting the next generation of researchers to integrate their research across ‘scales of biology’. SPPIRIT will build a collaborative network to help connect understanding of genes and molecules with immunology, physiology and behaviours, and with the ecological and evolutionary processes operating on populations. Such a truly integrative systems approach will lead to novel interventions and inform how to make them as evolution proof as possible”
